下北から渋谷への道

　私の人生はリトアニアと日本で過ごしてきた春の数で数えれば、大きく三つに分けられます。リトアニアの時期と、今年5回目の春を向かえられた日本の時期。東京での春は今年で2回目です。残りの3回は？驚くでしょうが、新潟県上越市です。上越は田舎なのですが、非常にいいところです。想像してみてください。海辺に過ごす静かな真夏の夜を。それに、真冬にスキーで山を下りる時を。そして、越後妻有アートトリエンナーレが行われている十日町をご存知ですか？そこがアートと自然の美を融合させた里山で、居心地が最高にいい場。
　東京は忙しい。ですから、隣家の庭が見える寮の台所は落ち着く場所の一つです。そして、電車に乗り、目の前に変わり続けている町の風景を見ながら移動することが好きです。行き先は、自由奔放で、かつ地味な下北沢。そこから渋谷までよく歩きます。発見の多い、居心地のいい道です。大好きなビリニュスの旧市街にどこかで非常に似ていて、夜明けの門かウジュピスにたどり着きそうな感じがします。そこは、故郷を思い出し、元気になる場です。


Aš metus skaičiuoju pavasariais: dvidešimt pavasarių Lietuvoje ir penki - Japonijoje. Dabar skleidžiasi antrasis pavasaris Tokijuje. Paklausite, kur praleidau likusius? Aš tikrai nieko neslėpsiu: Niigatos prefektūroje, Jōetsu mieste ir Lietuvoje. Nustebote? Taip, sutinku, Jōetsu yra provincija, ten nuobodoka, bet koks gamtos grožis! Ramybe alsuojantys vasaros vakarai prie jūros ir patrakusios žiemos dienos kalnuose. Beje, Tōka-machi, Tsumari regionas, kur vyksta meno trianelės – bene pati jaukiausia vieta, kokioje tik esu buvusi.
Tokijas visiškai kitoks. Mėgstamiausia vieta – bendrabučio virtuvė ryte, kai gerdama kavą žiūriu į kitoje gatvės pusėje esančio namo sodą (dabar ten kaip išprotėję žydi slyvos). Labai gera vieta traukiniai (žinoma, ne piko valandomis): įlipi, įsitaisai kur nors kamputyje ir važiuoji. Lango stiklu slysta besikeičiantis miesto peizažas, o vagone sulig kiekviena pravažiuota stotele mainosi pakeleiviai. Kas dar patinka? Laisve ir paprastumu alsuojanti kelio atkarpa nuo Shimokitazawos iki Shibujos. Beveik visada einu pėsčiomis.
Gaila, bet Lietuvoje traukinys yra pati nepopuliariausia transporto priemonė (sako, šalis per maža), todėl iš gimtojo Rokiškio, esančio Lietuvos šiaurinėje dalyje į sostinę Vilnių tenka važiuoti automobiliu arba autobusu. Rokiškis man dovanoja dvaro parką, ežerus ir upes. Vilnius – senamiestį. Vietos, į kurias visada norisi sugrįžti Vilniuje - Aušros Vartai ir Užupis. Tiesa, vos nepamiršau, Trakai ir plaukiojimas Galvės ežere valtimi – malonumas, kurio neatstoja net kąsnis skaniausio pyrago.


If I look back over my life so far by counting up the springtimes I have spent in Lithuania and Japan, they fall broadly into three categories. This will be the fifth spring I have spent in Japan, but only the second one I have spent in Tokyo. So what about the other three? You‘ll probably be surprised to hear the answer, but I spent the other three in Joetsu, in Niigata Prefecture. Now Joetsu may be just a rural town, but it‘s a fastastic place. Just imagine: the peaceful midsummer nights at the beach, and the happy days spent skiing down mountainsides in the winter months. And have you heard of Tokamachi, where the Echigo Tsumari Art Trienniale takes place? It is a wonderful, relaxing part of the country that has managed to unite modern art with the beauty of nature.
Life in Tokyo is hectic. One of the places I go to unwind is the kitchen in my dorm, where you can look down into the garden of the house next door. Another thing I enjoy is watching the shifting scenery of the city from windows of the train. I‘m on my way to free-spirited, down-to-earth Shimokitazawa. I often walk to Shibuya from here. It‘s a relaxing stroll, and one that‘s full of new discoveries. Something about it reminds me of the old town in my beloved Vilnius, and I sometimes feel as though I am about to emerge in front of the Gate of Dawn or in the Užupis area of the old city. It’s a place that reminds me of home, and keeps me feeling cheerful.

山でリフレッシュ

　私にとって居心地のいい場所は大自然のなかです。私は山の地方の出身で、森と山は大好きなのです。東京に住んでいますが、毎月山に行く友達ができて、とてもうれしいです。友達は奥多摩の村で畑を借りていて、地元の人々と一緒に交流しながら、農業をやっています。　ここで、私は山のおいしい空気を吸って、現地の名物もいただき、日本の山での生活について色々と勉強になります。
　そのおかげで、春に展望露天風呂から霧が立っている山の夜景を眺めたり、夏に森の中で滝の清水を浴びたり、川の周辺に蛍を見たりして、東京での忙しい生活からリフレッシュができます。
　チェコにいる家族や友達に日本の写真を見せたら、やはり山や海の景色や庭園のことは「きれ～い」、「行ってみたい」といつも言われます。


Jaké je Vaše oblíbené místo, kde se cítíte přijemně a pohodlně?

Příjemně se cítím v přírodě. Pocházím z horské oblasti, proto mám ráda hory a lesy. Bydlím v Tokiu, ale mám kamarádku, která každý měsíc jezdí do hor. To mě opravdu těší. Kamarádka si pronajímá pozemek na vesnici v Okutamě, kde se přátelí s místními lidmi a zahradničí. Takto můžu dýchat svěží horský vzduch, ochutnat skvělá místní jídla a naučit se něco o životě v japonských horách.
Díky tomu se můžu na jaře kochat noční krajinou zamlžených hor z otevřené dřevěné lázně s výhledem, v horkém létě se koupat v chladivé vodě vodopádu, dívat se na světlušky u řeky..., a tak si odpočinout od rušného života v Tokiu.
Když doma rodině a přátelům ukazuji fotografie z Japonska, vždycky se jim nejvíce líbí fotografie přírody a tradičních zahrad.


For me, relaxing means getting back to nature. I grew up in the mountains, so I’ve always loved the hills and forests. I live in Tokyo now, but luckily for me I have a friend I can travel to the moutains with every month. My friend rents a field in a village in Okutama, and grows vegetables in the field together with the local people. This is where I go to breathe the clean fresh air of the moutains, to taste the local delicacies, and to learn all kinds of things about life in the Japanese countryside.
The experiences I have here are what revive me from the strains of my busy life in Tokyo: Looking down on the misty mountains from a hot open-air bath in the springtime, or bathing under a pure woodland waterfall and watching fireflies along the riverbanks when summer comes.
Whenever I show my Czech friends and family photographs of Japan’s seas, mountains, and gardens, I always get the same reaction. „It looks so beautiful,“ they always say. „I definitely want to visit!“

海が好き

　私は海が好き。理由は多分私がルーマニアに住んでいたとき、夏はずっと黒海の近くの祖母のところで過ごしていたからでしょう。夏になると多くの人がルーマニアの港町、コンスタンツァに行きます。この地域から南にかけて、老若男女の好みにあう素敵なビーチがあるのです。
　皆さん、黒海は夏の間、黒くないと知ったら驚くかもしれませんね。この名は、水温が下がったときに育つ海草で海が黒く見えるのでついたものです。実際、日本の太平洋側の海の方が夏の黒海より黒いぐらいと感じました。


Personal, mie îmi place marea. Poate pentru că atunci când trăiam în România îmi petreceam fiecare vară la bunica, lângă Marea Neagră. Vara, foarte multa lume merge la Constanţa, principalul oraş-port al României. În această zonă şi de asemenea puţin mai jos, în zona de sud, sunt multe plaje frumoase pentru toate vârstale şi preferinţele. Şi poate că o să vă surprindă să ştiţi că Marea Neagră nu este deloc neagră vara. Numele îi derivă de la o algă care creşte atunci când temperatura apei scade şi în acest fel, marea capată culoarea neagră. În plus, Oceanul Pacific in Japonia mi s-a părut mai negru decât Marea Neagră vara.


Personally, I like the sea. Maybe the reason is because while I lived in Romania, I used to spend all the summers at my grandma, near the Black Sea. In summer many people go to Constanta, Romania’s main port-city. Around that area, as well as further South there are nice beaches for all ages and tastes. You might be surprised to know that the Black Sea isn’t black at all in summer. It derives its name because of an alga that grows when the water temperature becomes cooler, and so the sea looks black. Also, my impression was that the Pacific Ocean in Japan is actually blacker than the Black Sea in summer.

喫茶店でまったり

　私にとって居心地の良い場所はゆっくりと落ち着ける東京の喫茶店です。基本的に社交的な性格ですから、家に一人で引きこもるのはあまり好きではありません。でも、喫茶店では知らない人でも身の回りに誰かの存在を感じる一方で、自分のプライベートな場を作ることが出来ますから、とても気が和みます。
　忙しい一日の後でも、何となく思いにふける暇な時でも、静かな音楽を背景に温かいコーヒーをすすりながら、終わりかけている一日を締めくくる。気持ちや頭の整理、軽い読書や執筆というふうにして、ゆったりしたひと時を喫茶店で過ごすことで、元気が回復していきます。
　イタリアでは、喫茶店に匹敵するようなお店は通称で言うバーということになります。そこは友達との溜まり場、カウンターで立ち飲みをしながら、バリスタなどとわいわいと楽しくお話できる場でもあるので、自分との穏やかな時間を過ごすには適切ではありません。
　因みに今も池袋の大きな喫茶店の２階から初春の優しい日差しが差し込む窓際でこの文章を書いているところですよ。


Il posto in cui mi sento più a mio agio sono i caffè di Tokyo, posti in cui ci si può davvero rilassare. Fondamentalmente, sono una persona socievole per cui non amo rinchiudermi in casa da sola.
In un caffè, però, poiché riesco a costruire un mio spazio privato, avvertendo, allo stesso tempo, la presenza delle persone circostanti – sebbene sconosciute - posso davvero distendere la tensione.
Dopo una giornata piena, così come nei momenti liberi in cui ho la tendenza a pensar troppo, fare il bilancio della giornata che sta per finire, mettere ordine ai miei pensieri e sensazioni, dedicarmi ad una lettura o scrivere qualcosa di non impegnativo sorseggiando caffè caldo con della musica soft di sottofondo, mi permette di distendermi e ricaricare le energie.
In Italia, il caffè, detto “bar”, è sia un posto di ritrovo tra amici sia un posto in cui, bevendo direttamente qualcosa al bancone, si può disinvoltamente scambiare due chiacchiere con il barista e, quindi, non è l’ideale per trascorrere del tempo in serenità con se stessi.
A proposito, è proprio dal secondo piano di un grande bar di Ikebukuro, seduta accanto alla finestra da cui penetrano i primi raggi primaverili che ora sto scrivendo.


The places where I feel most at ease are the Tokyo cafes, places where you can really relax. I’m basically a social kind of person, so I don’t like being shut up on my own at home.
In a cafe, though, since I can build my own private space, while still sensing the presence of other people around me, even though they may be strangers, I feel really calm and relaxed.
After a busy day, or in those free moments when I tend to think too much, taking stock of the day as it draws to an end, putting my thoughts and feelings in order and reading or writing something over a cup of hot coffee, some soft music playing in the background, is the perfect way to sit back and recharge my batteries.
In Italy, the cafe, or “bar” as it’s known, is a place to meet up with friends, or a place where you exchange a bit of lighthearted chitchat with the barista over a drink at the counter. It’s not the ideal place for spending a bit of quiet time by yourself.
Appropiately enough, by the way, it is from the second floor of a big cafe in Ikebukuro, sitting by the window as the first rays of spring come streaming in, that I am writing this now.
