Richard. Hi I'm Julia, intern at the EU Delegation. Academic cooperation officer Richard Kelner from the Delegation of EU to Japan and I went to Ochanomizu Joshi University to meet the students and talk about the Erasmus Mundus program and the EU Circle. The number of students coming to this small presentation was beyond our expectations, and we were delighted to see so many young people interested in the EU. Richard presented the Erasmus Mundus program and its advantages which can be summarized as follows: •Joint programmes of outstanding academic quality designed and implemented by a consortium of European universities from at least three different countries •Over 130 joint masters and doctoral programmes, including a scholarship scheme •Mobility flows of students and academics between European and non-European higher education institutions What is especially great about this programme is that it offers students the opportunity to study in different EU countries through out their Master or Doctorate course. For example, a student could study during his/her first semester in Italy, then the next semester in the UK, and the following semester in Germany. Unfortunately, this program is not yet sufficiently known to Japanese students, and the number of participants from Japan has been considerably low compared to peers from China or India. We hope to increase our efforts in informing Japanese students about this wonderful programme which makes it possible to study across the EU and also offers good scholarships. See the Delegation of EU to Japan HP to learn more about Erasmus Mundus. http://www.deljpn.ec.europa.eu/modules/programme/erasmus/ At the end of the presentation Richard mentioned the EU Circle and its off-line event coming up on the 15th of December. Indeed it will be a great chance for Japanese students interested in studying abroad to mingle with Europeans, share experiences with them, and have fun! Food and drinks will be served for around 60 people. Here are some more details about the event. Date & Time: Thur. 15 December 2011, 18:00-20:00 Venue: Delegation of the European Union to Japan (Europa House, 4-6-28 Minami-Azabu, Minato-ku) http://www.deljpn.ec.europa.eu/modules/about/map/?ml_lang=en Admission: Free Registration: Please email Richard.Kelner@eeas.europa.eu Deadline: December 12th We would like to thank all the Ochanomizu Joshi Dai students who attended the presentation and also give special thanks to Associate Fellow Ms. Takako Ochi for organizing this meeting. We hope to talk to more students in different universities over the coming months and to enlarge the EU Circle!
