最後に、大好きなeucircle.jp。 Nu ir pabaigai negalima nepaminėti visų mūsų mylimo eucircle.jp puslapio, kurio pagalba Japonijos ir Europos sąjungos studentai turi galimybę atrasti kažką naujo ir naudingo jiems svetimoje kultūroje. http://watch.mit.edu/?PHPSESSID=4ab44ac02a3310762b614b253bf17bdf From all internet sources which you can find on the web the most I like are educational or entertainment sites. For example one of the educational sources belongs to MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). In collaboration with Youtube they transmit live lectures on different topics: philosophy, physics, politics and so on. It is possible to download lecture material too. So you can find some material on Japanese culture and language. The other type of source are sources for downloading movies or TV show for free, so you don’t have to pay for movie tickets. There are plenty of then, so I don’t mention them here, you can easily find one. Long time ago I was a movie person, so I tried not to miss the new one. But not all movies are supposed to be watched, even the trailer looks great most of the time it is not worth your time. Besides, if you download such kind of movie accidentally, you always can turn it off and not loose your money. The same thing with the music, though you can’t compare live concert and song on your PC. Finally, I can not to mention our beloved eucircle.jp source which helps Japanese and EU students to find new ideas and information for surviving in different culture. http://watch.mit.edu/?PHPSESSID=4ab44ac02a3310762b614b253bf17bdf #

この一大イベントシーズンは年末にかけて続き、英語ではその言葉通り”Christ(ああ、神様、なんて大変なこと!)” Christmas time, here in Tokyo, gives me a strange feeling of melancholy that I was relating with the impossibility of staying with my family during those holidays. But this is just one reason. I'm used to the systematic and great looting activity operated by Japanese in every field of human knowledge. Not necessarily choosing the best, but what has the greatest potential to become it. A delicate operation that requires sensitivity and long term vision, because what is extracted is then cleverly reworked, adapted, shaped in accordance with the tastes and the more profitable needs. This skill is one of the mysteries of Japan, a fascinating mystery that has made this country an incredible innovator, that robbers remaining true to itself. But when it was the turn of Christmas, something took a wrong direction, I think. There was only a short-sighted plunder, with no rework (and no subsequent attempt). Accidentally, Christmas period combine the emperor's birthday and the celebrations for the New Year, also magically becoming the feast of couples in love (which in fact was missing in the calendar). This big excitement lasts for a quite long period that, coincidentally, brings in its English transcription, of course, the word “Christ”. However I don’t understand the real reason of my impatience. It isn’t because of the commercial use of a Christian event, which arguably has nothing to do with this country. During the Meiji period to be a Christian was punishable with death, but now the Christian minority is free to express, and also in Japan the concept of religion is very different from ours: religion is an open system, not a package to take or to reject, but a package to draw from it. In Italy, for historical reasons, the issue is more complicated, but for not openly reject the package, we also mix the sacred with the profane in order to maintain the harmony of the customs. And it's not even because of Christmas trees, decorations, trinkets, balcony’s Santa Claus, suddenly materialized in all-100yen stores. In Italy is no different, it's even more expensive. It is neither the lack of a sort of Christmas spirit. Even in Italy is lost under all the lights. Nor the frantic searching of gifts.. To make me impatient, maybe, is simply to realize that this is all we can offer about Christmas; our image copied in its best potential by an expert observer. Japanese are only clearly showing what we are. With innocence, they see the king naked, or we intent to cover him, but perfectly aware in doing so. And Japanese, able caricaturists, don’t understand why we are so shocked about. #

Χο, χο, χο! I think that Christmas in Japan is very nice and festive. The streets and shops are decorated, Christmas trees and lights can be seen from people’s houses, and carols are heard everywhere you go. While the general atmosphere really puts you into the mood to celebrate, the whole experience is also a bit weird, if we take under consideration that the vast majority of Japanese are not Christian. Another thing that strikes me about the “Japanese” Christmas is that this particular occasion is considered as “couple’s time”, and not a joyous day to spend it with your family. On the other hand, in Greece (like in many other parts of the world), Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are considered family days. We usually have big gatherings where close relatives come together to eat and drink, and also exchange gifts. On Christmas Day, we usually eat turkey with potatoes in the oven; concerning sweets, we have some traditional Christmas sweets, such as “melomakarona”, “kourabiedes” or “diples”. People usually decorate their house with the traditional Christmas tree from mid-December onwards (some people even earlier). Like in Japan, the main streets and shops are decorated with lots of lights, and people rush around to buy their Christmas presents. Ho, ho, ho! Merry X-mas everyone! #

Erről szeretnék most itt két képet mutatni. When I came to Japan, I knew Christmas was not such a big holiday as in Hungary, so it was a nice surprise for me that in December there was a wonderful Christmas light-up in many places, and even Christmas trees were sold. Although I know that many Japanese people do not celebrate Christmas as we do in Europe, my experience about this is a little different because I attend a Catholic University, Sophia University in Tokyo, where we prepare for Christmas every December. This time of the year, the atmosphere of the campus is great, especially in the evening when there are Christmas lights everywhere. Now I would like to show two pictures of this here. #

My Christmas Last year I was enchanted by the Christmas Tree in Shinjuku Station, South Exit. The leaves were sparkling hearts with coloured lights in the night. I drank hot wine in Roppongi, in a market so similar to those in Germany that for a moment I thought of being back to the University years in Cologne. Tokyo dresses up as for a party and each of its focal points glows with its own colours. Tokyo Christmas is pleasing to the eye, a replica of Christmas in all its pyrotechnics forms. I love this spectacle but I do not appreciate the excessive attachment to the unbridled consumption increasing in this period. This year, every day, I get closer to Christmas by eating a piece of the cake that my students have prepared for me, with care and love. No need to buy, I would rather give something to the people I have been close to in this city. Something that belongs to me and that would make them happy. I love Tachikawa and its Luminè for the careful selection of products, the professionalism of the clerks. It is nice to spend a few hours surrounded by all objects and clothes that make the current stock. But it is also nice to think that I do not need them at all. I will spend the days until 22nd enjoying what this wonderful city has to offer. Meanwhile, I’ll pack my bag. Destination Italy. There Christmas is waiting for me. There won’t be any bright lights, but the warmth of the people I mostly care for. My family. #
