Czy lubisz japońską zimę? Niby proste a trudne to pytanie. Japońska zima, to nietypowe zjawisko. Tokijska zima bez grama śniegu, żadnego bałwana. Przeszywający na wskroś lodowaty wiatr. Zima w błękicie nieba. W telewizji nieustannie reklamy lekarstw na przeziębienia. Nowy Rok. Wyśmienicie smakująca “zima”*. Metro aż poczerniałe od koloru płaszczy wracających z pracy urzędnikow. Zimowa zupa w sklepach 24h. Karp. Pogubione rękawiczki. Zima “Zimowej Sonaty”. Zakopane po czubek nosa w pierzynie lodowate poranki. Sylwestrowe szaleństwa. Karnawałowe wyskoki. Zziębnięte zięby. Szczerze? Japońska zima, ani mnie ziębi ani grzeje... Tyle że, zimową porą wciąż sobie myślę, kiedyż wreszczie przyjdzie wiosna...? *“zima” to nazwa napoju. #

I think it’s hard to say whether or not I like the Japanese winter, because to me it’s not quite a real winter. In Denmark it’s much colder during winter and we can get so much snow that people can neither go to work nor school. I know that many places in Japan also get a lot of snow, but since I live in Tokyo I haven’t seen snow yet this winter. Therefore, I think the Japanese winter so far is very different from a Danish one. Here in Tokyo you can also wear shorts and miniskirts all year round and it’s the fewest people who wear huge winter coats like in Denmark. Another significant difference is the temperature inside. In Denmark it’s always nice and warm inside during the winter, but here in Tokyo my boyfriend and I can see our own breath inside, because our heating device can’t warm up our whole apartment. Next month we’re going to be even colder for a couple of days, because we are going to the snow festival in Hokkaido. I’m looking forward to experiencing snow in Japan and then it will be winter for real. #

The beginning of a new year is always a particular moment. News on TV speak about what happened in the just passed year and what is expected for the next one, they tell horoscopes while everybody plans how to spend the new-year’s eve and do promises for the new year. For me this new-year’s eve wasn’t that important: I didn’t feel like I really had to celebrate and do something special. Last year, instead, it was really ending a year full of satisfactions and changes and beginning one in which I didn’t know how it would turn; so last year I really felt the New Year’s Eve, but not so much this year. Since when I came back from Japan, in September, I had a kind of rest, that I really enjoyed, and that made me feel the time flowing quietly. Anyway during this year 2011 I definitely have and want to find a job, actually I would like to find a PhD, and I want to start to live with my boyfriend. I really feel these projects very important and a begin of new, adult life; but still, the New Year’s Eve didn’t represent so much the beginning point to push on: I will do these things during this year, little by little and full of hopes for the future. #

Quanto a me, vedo all'orizzonte un anno di studio intenso. Speriamo duri, l'anno e' lungo. Hopes I enrolled my father on a course for Japanese beginners without informing him. His Monday night friends from now on will be Hiragana and Katakana. And it is just the beginning. With my mother it was more complex. She does not intend to start studying again. Then I tried to persuade her to eat Japanese food. Light but delicious, good for the first days of January, after a month of celebration excesses. In particular, the miso with vegetables and yakisoba were appreciated beyond all expectations. She even asked shyly another portion while, backwards, facing the stove, I was silently moved by that unexpected roles’ reversal. And so I am preparing my family to the trip to Japan, which was organized several times, then imagined and set aside for various reasons. Now it becomes necessary. Here's my purpose for the new year. To allow my family to share my life with me again. I feel it is the right time to give my parents a clear sign of my infinite gratitude to them. Concerning me, I see in front of me a year of intense study. I desire to improve my Japanese and translate some of my stories. After the publication on the fanzine 2.0 of my story "On the run" and my short paper on mobile stories I feel again motivated to write. Maybe it is just a matter of jet lag but since I came back from Italy I wake up at six in the morning with a craving to do. Hope it will last, since I assume this year will be a long one. #

A következő versenyen biztos profitálok a mostani erőfeszítéseimből. I usually do not make New Year promises but I do have aims and plans for the year 2011. I got accepted to Waseda University in the autumn of 2010. I am really happy that in the past 3 months I have gotten used to the Japanese university life and had made a lot of friends. I am hoping to gain even more experiences in the next semester and achieve more in my academics as well. I like challenges so I would like to try myself at least in one competition. In the past semester I participated on an essay contest. It was hard sometimes to get myself sit down to my essay or make research after all the compulsory school works but I think this extra task benefitted me. I have read many interesting articles through my research that helps me understand some of the current political issues more. The result of the contest is not yet decided but as a first year student I do not have high expectations. But I do not get turned down even if I did not score well this time. In the next contest I am sure I will benefit from the efforts I made this time. Of course I have aims not only in the academic field. Since I am studying in Japan I would like to get to know the country as much as possible. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to visit some western cities such as Kyoto, Hiroshima or Fukuoka. In the summer or spring holiday I would like to discover the northern part of the country and, if possible, travel as far as Hokkaido. I would like to meet a lot of people and have talks with them so that I can enhance my Japanese skills and understand Japan more. Although I do not have any defined plans or New Year promises, I do have an idea of what I want to achieve and what I expect from the year 2011. Last year my goal was to get accepted to a Japanese university and here I am now as a student of Waseda University. In other words, the effort that I made yesterday made today and the effort I make today will open up my future. If I can be what I want myself to become is decided by the strength of my will. I hope that the end of next year I can look back just as happily as I did this year. #
