Vicino a me è accorso il mio coinquilino. Insieme in quello spazio angusto abbiamo aspettato che finisse. Poi siamo scappati fuori. Chronicles after the earthquacke I have been living in Tokyo for two years. One day I promised myself that I would have finished a book for my research. A cup of hot tea and a lot of concentration to understand 100 pages left I was sitting at the table. A slight shock and I raised an eyebrow. Shocks are not rare in this country, rather they represent almost an everyday life happening. They usually last a few seconds, but this one kept going on for more than two minutes. Becoming stronger and stronger. I took refuge under the table just before the scanner hit the computer falling from above the microwave oven. All around me books, notes, pictures and copybooks. The tea spilled from the table on the carpet. My room is small and it takes less than an earthquake to put it upside down. I pulled the plug to prevent fires. My flat mate came close to me. We waited together in that narrow space for the earthquake to end. Then we ran out. In an empty Shinkoenji. All the neighbours were at work. I met only a guy as scared as I was, although from the expression on his face you could just perceive a slight concern. He shook my hand in sign of solidarity. It was just the beginning of a long day that even now, while I am writing these lines, doesn't seem to come to an end. My TV on, I am waiting watchful for positive news. I am sure sooner or later they will arrive.
